Panchkula House

2020, 3500 sft

Panchkula, India

Residential Architecture + Interiors

Designed for optimal comfort, this row house in Panchkula maximizes wind, water, and daylight through strategic planning. Behind its clean facade lies a dynamic play of volumes, ensuring cross-ventilation and reduced energy dependency.

Unrestricted sightlines enhance the sense of openness, while individual nooks provide privacy within a cohesive layout. A neutral palette and natural stone flooring create a timeless canvas for personalization. The handcrafted staircase, with a teak railing, adds warmth to the steel frame.

A central bridge on the first floor connects two bedrooms, fostering interaction while maintaining openness to the living room and courtyard below. The other bedrooms, located on the ground and top floors, cater to user preferences.

The courtyard, a thermal buffer, doubles as a meditation garden, regulating airflow through an operable skylight. It functions as an exhaust in summer and a greenhouse in winter, providing glare-free light. Flanked by balconies, bedrooms benefit from cross-ventilation and outdoor engagement, aligning with the owners' love for gardening.

Rooted in vernacular zoning principles, the design blends nostalgia with modern sensibilities, offering a home that is both functional and emotionally resonant.
